Pre-Order For Toxaway Falls Garden Club 2011 Plant Sale
The Southern Highlands Reserve is once again proud to participate in the Toxaway Falls Garden Club's annual native plant sale. The native plant sale proceeds exclusively benefit the Club's non-profit Scholarship Fund. Every year the Club provides scholarships for qualified Rosman High School seniors who are going on to higher education.
As you know, times are tough. Some of our most talented local students are unable to attend college because of high tuition costs. Because this year's graduates are going to need help more than ever, we have ramped up our efforts to raise scholarship funds. In addition to selling plants at our spring sale fundraiser, we are also offering the public the opportunity to pre-order plants until November 20th. Plants ordered now may be picked up at Whistlin' Dixie Garden Center during the May native plant sale. By ordering ahead, a much larger variety of beautiful, native plants are available from growers. This year's first annual plant sale produced over $4000 for the scholarship program.
Club prices are very competitive with prices at garden centers. Groundcovers and herbaceous plants are offered in quarts. Shrubs are available in three gallon containers and grasses will be delivered as one gallon containers.
Plants will be available for purchase on-site at the plant sale next spring, but by taking advantage of this "Pre-Order" opportunity you will have a much larger list of native plants to choose from.

Here are four good reasons to use native plants in your home landscape:
(1.) Native plants have adapted over many thousands of years to survive specific climatic and soil conditions, they are very hardy.
(2.) Less fertilizer and pesticides are needed for native plants - an advantage for the environment and your pocketbook.
(3.) Once established, under usual circumstances, native plants will not require extra irrigation.
(4.) Wildlife depends on native plants for food and shelter.
