Seeking Greenhouse Manager

SHR is currently seeking an individual to serve as the greenhouse manager in a full-time role. This position will oversee the nursery operations, manage plant records and the digital plant database, and assist the gardening team in landscape management of the Reserve. This role is dynamic and requires continuous interaction and relationship building in order to serve as an organizational resource for internal and external partnerships. The successful candidate is one who understands the value of building relationships and who enjoys solving problems while becoming a steward for conservation.

Job Description:

Nursery Management
• Plan and execute native plant propagation
• Manage Red Spruce Project with Executive Director
• Handle daily operations of nursery complex
• Design and create improvements for nursery production

Gardening & Landscaping
• Assist gardening team in landscape tasks 2-3 days per week

Plant Database & Record Management
• Handle all plant records in database
• Assist Director of Horticulture in weekly database entries

Tours & Events
• Assist team in tour and event setup and breakdown
• Handle all tours at the nursery for education and plant sales

Qualifications:

• Technical skills required: Microsoft Word/PowerPoint/Excel, Outlook, Presspoint, Filemaker Pro or other database management, Excellence in phone and email communication,

• Educational requirements: college degree from a 4-year accredited college or university, preferably in horticulture or botany

• Experience requirements: minimum 2 years’ experience working with public or private gardens, minimum 2 years’ experience in greenhouse management and/or propagation.

• Some minor administrative tasks are also involved, including preparing internal reports, managing Outlook calendar for events, and assisting director of horticulture
